Ayurveda and allergies

Allergy has now grown into a popular disease. A fifth of the inhabitants of developed countries show some kind of allergic reaction and this number is constantly increasing.

But what does allergy mean? Abnormal reaction of the immune system to a substance that is otherwise harmless to life. And although modern science can explain in great detail how allergic reactions occur, it is still indebted to why it all happens. Doctors blame an over-reactive immune system, and they say that our immune system works too well. Steroids are prescribed to suppress the immune system and thus moderate the excessive immune responses. But long-term dependence on steroids permanently damages the immune system, preventing it from responding properly to real threats.
The ancient Indian Ayurvedic philosophy explains the allergy phenomenon with a very simple model, the additional advantage of which is that it also provides an answer to the why, thus enabling the treatment of the cause. According to this, allergic symptoms can be traced back to two main reasons: 1. The body is full of internal with toxins and/or 2. The immune system lacks a completeness of inner intelligence.

Internal poisons

When the body is overloaded with internal toxins to the limit, even the slightest additional load can trigger an avalanche that leads to an extreme immune response. By considering this simple factor, and and a carefully balanced and properly completed detoxification program with its help, we can already achieve a huge improvement in allergy sufferers. So instead of blaming the pollen, let's look inside ourselves and restore those bodily processes that place a huge burden not only on our immune system, but also on our entire body!

In order to see more clearly, let's get acquainted with one of the most important concepts of the Ayurvedic approach to health, ama. The but refers to the remains of nutrients that have not been properly processed by the body, characterized as a stretchy, sticky, cold substance. When food is not properly digested and the body cannot absorb and process it perfectly, the human body poisons instead of nutrients produces.

They are not only the breeding ground for all diseases, but also hinder what is considered the quintessence of the metabolic process and the healing intelligence of the body. old Saxon (see my article "Filling with Life", Elixir, March 2003), thus greatly influencing the performance of our body and soul, our general vitality and mood, as well as the body's resilience. Therefore, it is very important to remove the mother from the body if we want to achieve long-term success in the fight against allergies.

However, we should not exaggerate the detoxification methods that are fashionable these days either! Most of them do more harm than good, either because they strain the body too much or because they upset its balance. THE good detox program while cleansing the body, it also nourishes it. And not only do we need to cleanse the body, we also need to prevent toxins from accumulating again. We must correct the errors that lead to the accumulation of poisons. According to Ayurveda doctors, our own body is responsible for 90% of toxins in us!

The intelligence of the body

Our body is a complex system of trillions of cells cooperating and constantly communicating with each other, which body is much more like a field with intelligence than a static machine made up of permanent parts. Skin cells every 21-25 days are exchanged, cells lining the stomach wall every three days are recreated, and even the material in our bones is renewed every year. The body's mechanisms are constantly working to replace old cells with new ones.

Why do the old spots remain on the skin, when the material of the cells is constantly renewed? Why does an ulcer remain in the stomach if the cells of the stomach wall are replaced so quickly? The answer is that our bodies make the same mistakes over and over again. Thus, the effective solution is not to treat the material structure of our body, but to treat it controlling intelligence we need to fix that which controls the body how to produce the substance. If the intelligence of the body has been restored, the material organization of the body will also function healthily. This is true for all health problems, including allergies.

From the point of view of modern medicine, an allergy occurs when the body overreacts to an otherwise harmless substance, such as a food or pollen. This happens because the immune system does not properly assess the dangerousness of these substances. Pollen itself is not harmful. If it were naturally harmful, like snake venom, then everyone who inhales pollen would suffer from it. The immune system of allergy sufferers is thus unnecessarily activated and mistakenly considers the harmless pollen to be endangers the body, as if it were an army of invading bacteria.

The solution is therefore not to suppress the immune system, but to make it more intelligent. This is the purpose of using herbs used in Ayurveda since ancient times: to increase the intelligence of the body and mind with their help. The same living intelligence that makes a plant healthy and full of life can be used to improve the functioning of the human body.

Some advice

Just as the body itself is a complex system and allergies develop as a result of a complex process, the best therapy for allergy sufferers is a very comprehensive program. There is no single pill that will solve all our problems! Of course, they help a lot Ayurvedic herbal and mineral preparations, which are prescribed by the doctor in each case, taking into account the patient's body type, and he is the one who, also based on this, provides the patient with complex lifestyle advice covering the body, soul, environment and behavior as a whole, but in many cases the allergy symptoms can be completely eradicated with appropriate methods and a correct, harmonious lifestyle following the rhythm of nature! Even if we are genetically more susceptible to such diseases, it only means a tendency and not a final verdict on the disease.

The more of the following useful advice we incorporate into our daily lives, the better, but don't overextend yourself; it is not necessary to install them all at once. Following the principle of gradation, let's take it easy and take it easy, and only introduce another point when the previous ones have already become a habit.

1. Let's respect it sensitivity of the body and avoid substances that cause allergic reactions as much as possible.

2. It is important to reduce the harmful effects of the stresses bombarding the body and to create for the body the quiet peace that enables self-regeneration. Perhaps the most appropriate way to do this is a Transcendental Meditation, the effects of which have been supported by hundreds of studies for decades.
3. Drink plenty of warm (but not hot) liquid. Water especially helps to clean the body's microcirculation channels (srotas). Very few people in our culture drink enough fluids, and this has been proven to contribute to the development of more than an "incurable" malaise. Sipping warm water between meals is an excellent way to cleanse the body: drink one or two sips every half hour, but take a break one hour before and one hour after meals. (Two or three sips are enough, frequency is much more important than quantity.)
4. Experience all six tastes (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, hot, astringent) during every meal, if possible, but at least once a day. That helps to create a balance in our nutrition and the whole system of body, mind and emotions.
5. Let's reduce it the intake of animal proteins, the consumption of alcohol and too much sugar and salt - these burden the body with a lot of fat.
6. Avoid eating leftovers, which impurities are created in the digestive system and generally reduce vitality and life span.
7. Avoid a carbonated soft drinks and iced foods or drinks, which inhibit proper digestion and food, produce.
8. In order to improve our digestion and reduce the accumulation of ama, do not watch TV or read while eating!
9. An excellent immune booster is – preferably done in the morning – abhjanga, also massaging the whole body with warm sesame oil. It soothes, vitalizes, strengthens muscles, rejuvenates the skin, removes impurities and creates a radiant personal radiance. If the sesame oil heats you up excessively (especially people with Pitta body types can expect this), use coconut oil.
10. Let's get enough sleep. The importance of rest and good quality sleep cannot be overemphasized. Also, let's go to bed on time, preferably before 10 p.m. The body cleans itself between ten in the evening and two in the morning, but only when you sleep. We may feel that we can work with renewed energy (thanks to the increased Pitta dosa in the environment and in the body), but this energy should be used for cleansing and renewal of the body, not the mind.
11. Let's make sure that our liver is working well. For most people who struggle with allergies, certain liver enzyme problems may also play an important role in their complaints.
12. Use more in our diet turmeric. This free-radical-neutralizing miracle spice alone often has more significant long-term effects on allergy sufferers than anything previously tried. Turmeric is used for cooking, preferably in a dish at every meal. Fry it in ghee or olive oil to balance its slight Pitta-increasing effect.
13. If we feel heavy and sleepy after meals, it is a sign that we are producing fat and impurity instead of good quality nutrients. Improve your digestion by eating a thin slice of ginger before each meal. (However, if you have skin rashes, you should avoid ginger.)
14. Since Ama is heavy and sticky like Kapha, it already helps the Kapha dosa a lot balanced diet and following a lifestyle. (For details, see Elixir No. 143, January 2001, page 35)
15. Spices that are light, heating, spicy, and contain a lot of space and fire elements help to cleanse the body of heat. But let's be they are moderate, you don't have to immediately reach for chili and mustard seeds, coriander, cumin seeds, the above-mentioned ginger and turmeric, and fennel have a much more favorable effect. Cracked anise and cardamom seeds after eating also help with good digestion.
16. Let's not snack! We should only eat when we are hungry, wait until the remnants of the previous meal are emptied from the stomach. Snacking increases fat in the body, by "eating" half-digested food, so we can't digest any of it properly.
